Jeff Divine: Cultural Observations From Surf History

We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the iconic photographer, Jeff Divine, at Daydream for an archival slideshow from Divine's body of work spanning across the 60's, 70's, 80's, and through to today. From Divine's observations of the evolving surf culture, we learn about contemporary surfing's short history and watch as it's slides from a free-loving recreation into a multibillion dollar commercial industry. Divine will walk us through some of his first hand experiences behind the lens and provide contextual backdrops to the cultural underpinnings that lay beneath the surface in an effort to more deeply understand the causes behind surf history's twists and turns.

With one of the largest surf photography archives in existence, Divine's talents have been touted in art galleries, museums, cultural institutions, and publications world wide. Divine joined Surfer Magazine's staff in 1971 and for the next 35 years Divine held editorial positions at Surfer Magazine and The Surfer's Journal, traveling the world documenting diverse surfing experiences from international competitions to undiscovered surfing locations.

Doors will open at 7:00pm as we kick the evening with complementary refreshments and allow attendees to mix and mingle informally. Bear Flag will also be popping up with their food truck during this time serving up high quality seafood available for purchase. We will be moving into Divine's archival slideshow at 8:00pm. Afterwards, we'll open the floor for Q&A. A selection of signed and framed prints will be available along with posters to be signed by Divine. We'll be walking over the the Boathouse Collective for the after party! Due to the overwhelming interest in this event and our desire to provide adequate viewing space for our guests, we will be capping the number of attendees. Admission tickets are $10 prior to the event and if any room is left we will be selling tickets at the door for $20; however, we expect this event to sell out and encourage folks to purchase tickets online. Seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Standing room will be available once the seating fills and patrons are encouraged to find floor seating if they so choose.

See you at the show!
