9'8" Fantastic Acid Malibu Chip
Tristan Mausse of Fantastic Acid is one of the premier hull shapers of today. He creates his own iterations of classic displacement hull designs, resulting in boards that are unlike any other. Tristan's boards are incredibly fast trimming machines that draw long lines on rail. As he is located in France, we were lucky enough to snag a couple of his shapes, which he made while he was recently in town!
The Malibu Chip is an iconic design commonly attributed to Matt Kivlin and Joe Quigg that surfaced in the late 40s and really took the Southern California scene by storm in the early to mid 50s. The idea was to narrow and shorten the classic Hawaiian style boards into more maneuverable crafts for the smaller, choppier waves of the area. Tristan's iteration of this design is a solid modern representation of the original. It features a wide-point forward outline with a long, tapered rail line that ends in a wide rounded square tail. The rails are full but foiled, and the bottom features a light hull bottom, ideal for locking in trim at waves such as Malibu. Rocker is very minimal but does have a slight natural curve throughout. This particular board comes with a beautiful 2" balsa stringer and glass-on Quigg fin.
