6'2" Jon Wegener Peanut Alaia
6'2"
Jon Wegener is perhaps the most influential and well-known wooden board builder in the modern age. He specializes in equipment that could be considered the oldest form of the surfboard: finless wooden planks called alaias! Emphasizing sustainability and purity, Jon pays homage to surfing's Polynesian roots by crafting his alaias with all natural materials such as the durable, yet light and floaty Paulownia wood.
The Peanut is a modern, performance-based twist on the classic alaia outline. It features a slightly hour-glassed outline with two wide-points, one near the nose and one near the tail. On the bottom, Jon has placed a subtle bellied entry in the front third, which blends into a single concave that extends all the way out the tail. At about 3/4" thick, this alaia takes a lot of effort to paddle and catch waves, but once dialed, it is pure joy. Take the Peanut out at a punchier wave and experience the most connected form of upright wave riding!
