Surfboards Australia was actually established in the US in 1969, this board was shaped in the Gaines Street San Diego Gordon & Smith Factory. Floyd Smith who ran the Australian leg of G&S went back to San Diego in 1968 to sort out business with Larry Gordon after establishing G&S Australia in 1965 and was making sleds all the way up until 1983. After Nat Young won the World Surfing Championships in 1966 on his Magic Sam in San Diego, focus on board design shifted from the Californians to the Australians and the Transition Era was took off at a rocketing pace soon after. Surfboards Australia was smart to capitalize on the Australian influence and the boards themselves are an incredible intersection of style and power with deep rolled bottom contours for effortless speed generation juxtaposed by a heavy dose of nose and tail rocker to fit these midlengths into critical parts of the wave with ease. This model is called the 3A Round Tail and was shaped in 1969.
